Consequences 1

Not sure with this is philosophical or facing up to reality.

Objectives
1. achieve world peace?
2. power to the people?
3. equal share of resources?
4. ??

Reality
1. Population.
I'm 63, in my life time the population has increased by a factor of 3.
At that rate a child born today will be amongst 18bn when he/she gets to my age. 13bn if the UN estimate of 5-6bn being wiped out by AIDS is correct and neither take account of further scientific 'advances'.
Do the maths

2. Resources.
Finite planet, increasing use, equal share for all?
Do the maths

3. Environment.
We are TOTALLY dependent on the environment, technical quick-fixes included, in fact the TQF's are escalating the destruction of our means of living.
Do the maths

Consequences. (in reverse order)
1. Environment.
Destruction of the environment means the worlds ability to support life at all is drastically reduced.
2. Resources.
Depletion of resources reduces ability to support any desired lifestyle.
3. Population.
The sum of the above is that the SUSTAINABLE population of the planet is about 1bn AT 3kw PER DAY.

The net sum of the above is what politics is about i.e. manipulation of resources for own best interest, and this group, and others, are totally ignoring it.

Assuming(?) we get democracy, what would the people vote for?
Better health care? (means more people)
Better life style? (means more resources)
Who would vote to remove health care and medical advances that are increasing the population? (birth control is not the answer, there are less born per capita than there ever was, it's the number not dying that is the problem).

When one looks at the potential consequences, would you say the human race is:
a. the bewildered herd?
b. selfish lot?
c. intent on the destruction of itself and the planet?
d. capable of rational decisions?
c. suicidal

Failing to address these issues will mean Armageddon, and I would guess we will see the real effects (it's happening now) in the next 10 years, with or without Bush and WW3.
