Millennium

What is it we are supposed to celebrate on the 1/1/2000? Is it :-

1:- 2000 years? so what. Humans  have been around for about 200,000 and some species for 60m.

2:- 2000 years of Christianity?  is from Jesus's birth, or death, or some point in between? Well they can't even get that right, because it's 4 years out from his birth. If Jesus saw the light after 14 days in the desert, why haven't the Arabs after several thousand years?

3:- The world will not end for such a poor reason as either of the above, although there are plenty of others.

4:- Perhaps it is to celebrate the over coming of the crass stupidity of society in following the offerings of a man, who in 1980 did not realise that the year 2000 was only twenty years away, in fact did not wake up until 1997. I wonder if someone will want to reset time for the birth of Bill Gates or will they burn the bastard at the stake.

I can only conclude that it's the best excuse for the biggest "piss-up" for a thousand years. I will be prepared for No 4 with the car fuel tank full, fuel for the generator and food for 2 weeks. Call me cynical if you like, but I believe that God helps those who help themselves (you will not find me on a prayer mat for any reason), coupled with a disbelieve that "experts" can get it right.

Letter to New Scientist in response to a request for forecasts for life in the year 3000.

And what gives you the idea that we (the human race) will last another thousand years?

With the escalation of science this century, and a population multiplying by a factor of four, to last another century will require nothing short of a miracle, and I gave upon them years ago.

If I have the figures correct, at 0AD the population was 200m. 1000AD =275m. 1800AD=900m. 1900AD=1625m. 2000AD= 6bn. Would someone take their head out of the trough long enough to work out the population in 2100AD and 3000AD. Even if another planet was found (what right have we to *!?k it up like this one), and how the hell are we going to ship people off this planet to keep in front of the increase, or will it be the "cream" i.e. the scientists, so they can get a head start on screwing up the planet before anyone else gets there.

Scientists keep looking back to understand the "big-bang", why don't they look forwards, the next one is a lot closer.

Why is that science-fiction writers ALL see the earth as devastated, people killing each other on earth and wars throughout the universe?

Cue for ROBO-COB.
